The short version:

Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Do not submerge. That is genuinely all you need.

The longer version:

Electrostatic powder coat is a durable industrial finish. The same coating process is used on commercial shelving, outdoor furniture, and automotive components. Under normal domestic conditions — indoor use, dry environment — it will outlast most furniture you own.

What will not damage it:

  • Dry dusting
  • Damp cloth (wrung out, not wet)
  • Mild domestic surface cleaner, applied to the cloth not the surface
  • Objects sitting on it (it is rated for 15kg)

What will damage it:

  • Wire wool, abrasive pads, scouring powder
  • Prolonged water exposure or damp environments
  • Solvent-based cleaners (acetone, paint thinner)
  • Dragging metal objects directly across the surface

About the Human Signature texture:

The micro-texture variations in the powder coat are inherent to the process and intentional by our decision. They are not damage and they do not require treatment.

If the surface is scratched:

Powder coat touch-up pens in RAL 9005 (Jet Black) are widely available and work well for minor surface scratches. For deeper scratches that expose bare steel, we recommend prompt touch-up to prevent oxidation, particularly in humid environments.

Structural maintenance:

None required. The lock mechanism is geometric — there are no moving parts, no springs, no adhesives. The shelf will hold its form indefinitely under normal load conditions.
